Todd's out of town in Egypt but the kids and I went with the Leavitts and Beecrofts to Umm ar-Rasas. It's a site of a Roman town developed during the Byzantine and Umayyad periods.
It has a huge mosaic floor there dated to 785. The mosaic floor is under that shelter you see in the background behind those three arches in the picture below. I was amazed at what great condition the floor was in. This picture is of the floor but my camera doesn't do it justice. Here's where that photography bug would come in handy. But like I said, I'm sure if you're truly interested you could find some great pics of it with a couple of clicks on your computer.
This is Critter exploring some of the ruins. From this angle it looks like just a bunch of rocks. Much of it was piles of rocks due to earthquakes and general destruction over time. But there were some fairly intact walls and such in other places. In this area we found lots of what looked like pottery remnants.
Red always loves to have his picture taken.
The weather was fabulous. We've had days of quite cold weather then it turns beautiful for a couple of days. Today was one of the beautiful weather days.
