NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

I can't figure out how to upload more than 5 pics to a blog at a time so I'm doing this blog in a couple of different posts.

I took this next picture only so I could tell the story. When Todd went to Paris a few months ago he went on an on about this huge, great, delicious salad he had. He is more a meat and potatoes guy so for him to rave about a salad is saying something. So ever since we knew we were going to Paris he told me I needed to get a salad sometime when I was there because "Paris has the best salads!" Against my better judgement one day (I really wanted a sandwich thingy) I ordered a salad for lunch. This next picture is what I got. It wasn't a bad salad. But it was just a salad. It was served very fancy though. It had the green leafy stuff in the bottom dish and the top dish had tuna and lentils. They gave me a vinegar and oil dressing. And of course I had hot chocolate with it. So here's a pic of my "greatest ever Paris salad" that was really just a salad I could get anywhere.
This is me at the Louvre museum standing next to Mona Lisa. Here I was a little braver and I asked someone to take my picture. There was so much security around that I felt safe that if someone tried to steal my camera I could ask for their help. The first person I asked either didn't speak English or just didn't want to but she refused my polite request to take my picture. A second lady was kind enough to do it for me though. Please excuse the hat. It was a gift. It matches the scarf. Paris was cold. It was all I had. My haircut is such that once I put a hat on I don't take it off til I'm in the privacy of my own home. Once again, years from now, I can look back and see how ridiculous I looked in that hat. Oh wait--I don't have to wait years for that.
This next picture was taken from the bus I was on. I didn't have the time (or frankly the interest) to go into the Rodin Museum so I snapped the pic as we drove by this statue. Anyone recognize it? It is "The Thinker." Bet you've never seen this sculpture from this angle.
And here is the Statue of Liberty as seen from the Eiffel Tower. No, you can't really see THE Statue of Liberty from the Eiffel Tower in Paris. But you can see this one. This is a miniature replica of the real one. It was a gift from the USA to France. I've never seen THE Statue of Liberty in real life and this may be the closest I get to seeing it so it was fun for me. Made me a little homesick even though I consider New York nowhere near home.

Catherine,

That sounds like tons of fun. I am envious of both your time alone and your time in Paris :0)
