NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

House pics

Here are some pictures of our kitchen. I love the openness and the plentiful cupboard space. When Todd first emailed me the picture of the kitchen, I thought it had some funky paint job. However, it is not paint. It is the actual color of the wood of the cabinets. After being in another villa for a branch social and seeing pictures of other kitchens in villas, this style of kitchen is very common and there are a lot of similarities.

I love the stove in the kitchen. It is a gas stove and has 5 burners. Now I just need to learn to cook with the food they have here. Food coming from the states is much more expensive here. If I want to keep down our food budget, I'll need to learn to use more of what is available locally.

This is an interesting part of the house. If you'll notice the shiny thing on the floor. It is a drain. The kitchen and bathrooms and some other parts have a drain in the floor. All the floors are tile and these drains are the equivalent of central vac. You can wet the floor down to clean it and then squeegee (sorry--no idea how to spell that one) the water into the drain.
