NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

Beach

Here we are at the Persian Gulf beach. This beach is very near the Kuwait Towers. I think it was about our 2nd day here in Kuwait. That's my dad in the bottom picture with the kids. Sorry about the water on the camera lens that blurs the pic.

We went to the beach on the 2nd day we were here. We'd only planned on just seeing it but kids+water=have to get wet so they swam in their clothes. It started with just a couple of them wanting to put their feet in. Then the bottom of their pants got wet and gradually the water worked its way up. It wasn't very crowded there but I don't think anyone even thought twice about us swimming in our clothes because there were others there swimming in their clothes. Very few women swim on the public beaches because if they do, they swim with all their clothes on--even the abaya.

We had been told that the public beaches were trashy and we weren't disappointed. They clean them every few days but it doesn't take long for them to get dirty again. We hear that the private beaches owned by hotels, health clubs, etc. are much cleaner but we're not sure if we will use the beach enough to warrant spending the money to become a member of those places. Since these were taken, we went to another beach further south and it was much cleaner--even the bathrooms were clean. I've been in much worse public restrooms in the states. They had tables and chairs for use. There was a minimal fee for that beach.

Hey everyone! Ms. J here from the Whittier library. Megan (at school) gave me the blog address because I keep bugging her and Sarah about what they're hearing from your family. Thanks for keeping all of us up to date on your adventures. It was fun to see your Halloween costumes and I love your new villa (my favorites are the window "garage doors" and the creative uses you've found for the intercom).
