Hey everyone! Its Clara!! I'm here to tell you a short (and trust me, for the way I talk, it will be REALLY short) update of how my life is. For my short version, you will need to know some Arabic words:
a saalam oo a lakoom- peace be upon you
wa mallakom a saalam- response to a saalam oo alakoom (meaning peace be upon you)
techie englizie- do you speak english?
la nutekelum arbia- i don't speak arabic
hada- this is
shukran- thank you
arbia- arabic
ma' saalam- good bye
la- no
Okay, now that you somewhat know the Arabic words, onto the story!!
Well, a couple weeks ago when my dad was out of town, (him being the one to speak Arabic and handle Arabic phone calls) we got a phone call. I said to Calvin "oh, i'll get it, its probably Reem" (Reem is my friend from school). So I said "Hello?" and I hear back "saalam oo a lakoom" "uhhhh, hello?" "hada" (then I'm not sure what she said after that) and I inturuppted her and said "techie englizie?" she said "la", then kept talking. Forgeting what "I don't speak Arabic" was, so, I said "I don't speak arbia" then from out of nowhere Calvin shouts "say la nutekelum arbia" so I say that and then I think she said something along the lines of "is there a Kuwaiti in the house who speaks Arabic and English?" I, who didn't know what she said fully, said "la" and she said "sorry" and I said "ma saalam, shukran" I don't know why I told her thank you but boy, did i feel stupid!!
School in genral is still really easy. But now I feel I can do more in band at least. I FINALLY HAVE MY SAXOPHONE!!!!! I'm getting to be really good and can play Minuet in G by Bach (I think) on my sax. Mostly everything is really easy. But now I don't have Ms. Drouin. Now I have the really nice art teacher!
Well, Young Womens is going good. Execept I can't go to Youth Conference from the 12-16. Only because I won't be 13 before September 1. Oh well, Brighton Camp made up for it.
Kuwait is now starting to warm up, its almost hot by the end of the afternoon. We used our coats for about 2-3 weeks and its already warming up. Dads telling me I have to go to bed now, so love and miss you all! BYE!!!! ~Clara~

a saalam oo a lakoom! Thanks for sharing - can you learn a Van Halen song on your sax? Your dad would like that.... ;-)
