NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

So what exactly does 24/7 mean?

At the entrance to our compound is a mini-market called the 24/7. You know where this is going, don't you.

The 24/7 market has been quite handy since the nearest grocery store is a 15 minute drive. The kids like to walk or ride their bikes down to buy treats and I can get things I need like water, milk, and fabric softener. It saved my bacon once when I was able to buy some much needed popcorn.

The other morning I realized we were low on bread and milk and Cricket volunteered to ride her bike down to get what I needed. It was about 8:30 am. She returned with no bread and no milk because the 24/7 was closed.

So whose idea was it to name that market 24/7? What exactly does 24/7 mean to an Egyptian? I guess I'll have to ask one.

It was the one who rode my bike down there and half way my bike broke and then I walked my bike to the 24/7 and it was closed! What a problem! So I walked all the way back home walken with my bike my bike is broken and no things I was going to get. Horrid day in my opinion, bike broken, walk home, and no groceries! And i ride my bike like almost everywhere I go.

24/7 means all the time. Except for before 10:00 AM, after 7:00 PM, and a couple of hours of lunch break somewhere in the middle. To quote Calvin and Hobbes, "We may both be speaking English, but we're sure not speaking the same language!"
