NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

At least it's a dry heat . . .

When we found out we were moving to Kuwait many people asked me what I was most nervous about. Since this was a move Todd had been preparing me for for 13+ years I was only nervous about one thing. That was how I would deal with the extreme heat.

Fortunately we won't experience the true Kuwait heat as we'll be in the States for most of July and August which is their hottest months. I can't imagine because the last few weeks we've consistently been over 100 degrees. The last couple of weeks have been hovering around 110. I truly see why this is a society that comes alive after the sun goes down. It's just too darn hot to do anything during daylight hours. The only problem is the "cooling off" temperature hovers around 90.

What's interesting is when the wind is blowing. It's like you're standing next to one of those huge heat blowers on the side of a building. Usually you move away from the building and get some relief. But here if you keep walking that huge heat blower just follows you around.

What a relief Jordan will be. The average high temperature in the hottest months is 88. The weather the weekend we were there was fabulous! We took the kids to a park/playground one evening and while the weather was pleasant I thought I would be just a bit more comfortable if I had a light jacket. What a difference from Kuwait!

Catherine, You are such an exotic friend! I love to tell people about my crazy friends who live in the Middle East. I'm happy you have a blog to share the fun you are having.
I hope we can see you when you come to the states. I'm sure you have a long list but I liked your running idea. Do you have a treadmill there? I can't imagine you running the streets of Kuwait!
