NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

Kudos to Todd

So Todd was a bit . . . ummmm . . . perturbed that I didn't give him more credit for helping to handle the situations I was in the other day. So let me tell the world that Todd did help out quite a bit even though he was in another country. Cell phone technology is amazing. He was able to facilitate getting more water and getting a replacement car. Thanks hon for all you do/did.

An update on that day. We are now driving a Mitsubishi Pajero for a few days. It isn't big enough for our family but it sure is nicer than the van we were driving. We're working on getting a car big enough for all of us.

I asked someone who has lived here in Jordan for years (I wish I would've had her number that day) where Khalidi hospital is. It is NOT on Khalidi street despite what the doctors' receptionist told me. I wasn't really even close to finding it that day as it is located Southwest of 4th circle and I was driving around Northwest of 4th circle. Turns out too it is approximately 3 blocks of where we attend church. Who knew? But I did finally find it.

I made it to the plastic surgeons office and he said we had 3 options. 1--leave it in because it's not going to hurt her. 2--give her general anesthetic and perform a 10 minute surgery. Or 3--give her local anesthetic and see if she'll let him take them out. We tried option 3 right there in his office but she would have none of it. So we're going with option 1 til she's older. She'll just have to walk around for the next few years looking like she needs to brush something off her chin.

We have water but we've been without hot water. Turns out that problem was caused by our diesel gas tank being empty. It was refilled this morning. Now we are in negotiations with the landlord as to who will pay for the gas (costs about 1300 JD or $1950) as this wasn't discussed before we rented.

We really are doing fine. Cake batter and sleep fixes many problems. Petey and Critter were invited to some friends' houses after school today so they're excited to have friends. Cricket was invited to a birthday party for next week so she's happier. Red was invited to one too but he doesn't want to go as it is a "fairy" party and kids have been invited to wear their fairy costumes if they want. He thinks only girls will be there so he's not sure he wants to go. I take Nic and T to a playgroup and they have fun with other kids their age and I meet other women. It's basically a playgroup some women at the Embassy organized but they invite anyone who wants to come so I've been able to meet a lot of American expats through this playgroup. We're having a "girls night out" on Saturday night. We're going to see Mamma Mia then have ice cream.

Thanks for all your supportive comments. I miss all of you and think of you often and how I wish all of you were here too so we could help each other out.

What a woman! I would have been in tears long ago. Louis has been gone for a couple of days on business and I can't wait for him to come home....we have had no problems either. Hang in there and hooray for cake batter. I am going to try that next time I have a day like you did.
Glad things are looking up.

I think you may have found a good solution for yourself and the kids... getting involved wherever you live is the key! What are the members of the church like there? Are there any? Create for yourself the environment you need, if you can. Good luck! Bev
