Let me start by saying Todd is in Egypt and I'm in a country where I don't speak the native language.
6:15 a.m.--turn on shower--water is cold and doesn't get hot.
8:30 a.m.--turn on washing machine--realize we're out of water--AGAIN!
9:30 a.m.--Take Nic to the Doctor so the Dr. can look at the two, yes TWO, pieces of pencil lead embedded in her chin. Doctor refers me to a plastic surgeon. Trip not a total waste as Nic got a couple of immunazations that were due.
10:10--realize the gas light on the car is on so I stop to fill it up. Spent $$ to go from completely empty to completely full (you'll realize why this became so annoying later on)
10:15--call the plastic surgeon to schedule appt. He asks if I can come in right now. Sure. I ask him for directions. He responds it's too complicated but if I can find my way to some hospital I've never heard of, then give him a call from there and he'll direct me.
10:20-10:40--study the terrible maps we have trying to find Khalidi hospital. Find a Khalidi street. It must be there.
10:45-12:30--drive around and around and sit and sit in traffic trying to find Khalidi hospital. Make 3 phone calls to plastic surgeon (Call 1--Is it on Khalidi street? Yes. Call 2--Am I on the right street because I don't see Khalidi hospital? Yes keep driving. Call 3--I can't find the hospital. Should I keep trying or reschedule? Come at 4 tomorrow)
12:45--arrive home to find water truck here to fill our tanks. (I'd texted Todd who texted Firas who arranged to have our tanks filled.) Costed us another 50 JD ($75 USD). The city says it's a faulty valve and that's why we're not getting enough water pumped to our area. They know the problem but about 4 weeks later we'll still waiting for the problem to be fixed so when we run out we have to pay to have our tanks filled.
12:45-5 ish.--Take care of kids, eat, clean, usual stuff. Try to transfer pics from old computer to new computer. Captions won't transfer. Find out the program I use doesn't support the transfer of captions. Worry the old computer could crash at anytime so I have to get the pictures to another place to keep them safe. Did that but without the captions I've spent so much time on.
5:45--Leave to take Critter to scouts. Van breaks down. Rental company doesn't have another car large enough for us so we will use a smaller one til they can get us another one or get van fixed. Whatever car we get the tank better be full.
6:00--now--arranging for car replacement, cleaning up house, large chunk of this time looking for our broom. Still can't find it. Not good for a house that has absolutely no carpet. Spent rest of evening irritable. I think chocolate cake batter will help so now that kids are settled down in bed, I'm going to go make me some.

Catherine- Dido what JoDell said! You are a true hero! I wish that we were close and could help you out. You are in our prayers. I hope that the Dr appointment went well. Sorry to hear about the van, it seems like you have had your fair share of car trouble and other trials. You need a hug, so here's one from me.(((HUG)))
Good luck!

I know it doesn't feel like it when it's happening, but some day, maybe you'll look back on these challenging days, and think, "I'm still glad we lived there... and got to do this..." You are amazing, Catherine. Don't forget to remind Todd just how amazing you are!!! It is only because of you and your willingness to have this "adventure", that he is living his dream. I know, because living in NYC isn't just a walk in the park! Well, it can be, but it's usually on noisy, crowded, dirty, smelly streets... So, I get ya! Bev
