NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

Branch Christmas Party

Our branch had a Christmas Party/Talent Show. It was lots fun with some amazing talent in such a small branch.

Petey and Cricket played duet in the show.

Here's a picture of Critter with a special guest of the evening.

We've discussed with the kids before that sometimes the real Santa can't make it to all the Christmas parties so he sometimes will send a helper in his place. However, not even my youngest kids were fooled into thinking this was even a helper. They all recognized him as Kevin, a Young Single Adult in the Branch.

When he first came into the room, of course there was much squealing from the littlest kids. They started to crowd around him and he probably didn't have much experience being Santa's helper because he started handing them a candy cane, wishing them a Merry Christmas, and sending them on their way. Parents were scrambling for their cameras but most of the children had already been sent on their way before the caps were off the lenses. So Amiee House, the Primary President, stepped in and organized the chaos. She lined all the kids back up--even those who'd already received their treat--and reminded Kevin of the whole "sitting on Santa's lap, telling him what you want for Christmas, and letting the parents take photos" protocol.

The evening was a lot of fun with skits, juggling, musical talents, lip syncing, and general Christmas spirit of friends together celebrating perhaps the most celebrated holiday in a foreign land where the holiday isn't celebrated at all.

I can say this now that Kevin isn't in the ward anymore right? But that is the sorriest sight of Santa I've ever seen!
