NEW BLOG!

Now that we've left Egypt, I feel a need to record what we did there so when we look back on our time we'll remember it wasn't all homeschool and sleeping. I'll continue to post to this blog until I catch up to the time we left Cairo in June 2010. Our new blog will pick up from that time forward.

"Special Day"

Mr. Safadi, the activities coordinator in the school, has planned for anyone who has musical talent to sign up for the Special Day. Thursday, he asked me if I played anything, I said, "Yea.. the piano" "Great!!!" So, that was it, I was signed up.

The next Sunday, he came up to me and said, "I heard you singing at play practice. You're really good. Can you sing and play at the same time." "Yea..... So you want me to do something like 'Candle on the Water'?? That's just one I can think of off the top of my head." "Yes! By Elton John!" I was thinking, Oh, Elton John did a version of Candle on the Water? Cool.
I came home and told my mom. She said, "I don't think Elton John sang 'Candle on the Water', I think he sang something like 'Candle in the Wind' or something like that for Princess Diana's funeral." So we googled it and sure enough, she was right.

Monday, I saw Mr. Safadi, he came walking out of the "Exam Hall A" and started singing "Candle in the wind" as he walked over to me. How was I supposed tell him I had no idea what the heck this song was (plus the fact that I didn't even know it existed until the previous night)?? So, I asked him, "Do you still want me to do that song? (in hopes that he would say, no)" "Yes, yes, of course!!" "Well, I don't have the sheet music for it at home. So, --" "Wait, do you know the words off the top of your head?" "ummmmm..... no." "Hmmm. Well, google it tonight and see what can come out of this." So, I googled it , again in hopes that we would have to pay some outrageous price or that it wouldn't be there, but alas, it was. So we printed it,etc...

Tuesday, I went to go talk to him and ask him if I could change it to "Candle on the water". But I felt embarrassed to go and talk to him, because I was afraid I would be letting him down. But again, he wasn't there. I went both breaks, and when I was going to Arabic which is in the same building as his office, he wasn't there.

Wednesday, I saw him as I was going into one of my exams. "Ummm, Mr. Safadi? I think we were thinking of 2 different songs, I was thinking of doing Candle on the water--" "By Elton John'. "No, Elton John sang 'Candle in the wind' at Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana's funeral. I was thinking 'Candle on the water' from Pete's dragon". "Can you play that one on the piano and sing it?" "yea..." "then okay, whats the problem?"

:P, I guess I had it extremely built up.
